Find Care & Housing
5 6 7 8 9
Way, it must be nice for you and your hub not to have to be caregivers anymore. You have done much more than your share.

The difficulties of setting up TV services and choosing good mobile plans is on my mind, My old mobile plan recently added $6.00 a month. I thought I had a price fixed for a couple of years so I looked around for another one. I find the people I have to deal with re my old plan not good and there have been some account mess ups.

Between the mobile and the TV I have spend hours trying to find a good deal. I prefer to communicate with agents through chat as I can get a transcript and accents don't get in the way. There was over a $50 dollar difference in the TV bundle I was looking for depending on who I talked to. I grabbed the cheaper one and asked for someone to come and install it. Well, that didn't work I should install it myself. I said I'm 88 I don;' want to try that but got not cooperation. As well there was a goof up from when my internet was installed a couple of years ago which they couldn't figure out.

So yesterday I contacted another agent and got some information and I can call and get tech to come and install and they are looking into the goof up. Both G and I have trouble reading many instruction booklets as the print is very small and so light. Using a magnifying glass helps, but I would prefer someone to come here and do it.

Anyway, in the good old days, you called, got offered a couple of options, chose one and in less that 1/2 hr had it sorted and a tech came to the house and did his thing and all was well. I preferred that. It was much simpler.

Margaret -glad you are OK. I gather that though there was damage in Darwin, no one was killed.
A change of clothing makes sense. The only time I have been evacuated (2016 for the forest fire) I had already packed to leave town for a visit so I had extras.

Thanks for the good wishes. We are in Alice Springs, 1500kms from Darwin and also 1500 kms from the south coast, so not much risk here (apart from lack of sleep watching the net, plus the fact that it’s 42C today). After the big one 50 years ago, all Darwin houses and house repairs had to meet ‘cyclone standards’, but until one arrives you really don’t know, do you? It looks like the only building victims were those survived the big one, and didn’t get pulled down and rebuilt to the new standards. Many many trees down, so problems on the roads, but it all went well!

The 'emergency kit' information was interesting. I wouldn't have thought of 'a change of clothes' so you can take off what you are wearing and wash it!

@ friends of Margaret:

Of course we need to know Margaret.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina has passed Darwin at category three strength, with the weather system's gale-force winds leaving a path of destruction as it continues west into the ocean.

Hoping you are okay and safety is redeemable for you and your neighbors.

You may not need to know, but a category 4 cyclone is due to hit Darwin (Australia) in a couple of hours. It’s to be hoped that it’s not as destructive as the cyclone that wiped out Darwin 50 years ago. However the news has the frightening message that the pubs are closed. It’s good to keep a sense of proportion, but this is serious folks!

If you throw out the sock , the matching one will finally reappear 🙄. This happens to me every so often .

Look on the floor between the washer dryer . I’ve also had socks stuck inside the leg of pants for a while before wearing them again .

Taking a walk on a beach one day I noticed a post that had shoes nailed to it.

There was a sign nailed to the post as well that said “lost soles”.

Looking closer I noticed there was only one of each pair of shoes.

No gray socks with a purple band. Just the lost soles.

Hmm, I don't think I've seen your sock Grandma1954. But that's an interesting thought, could all those socks that disappear in the laundry be teleporting to my small town?

cwillie...I am looking for a short gray sock with a purple band on the top. I have had this single sock for about 1 year (I do not want to admit to longer than that but that is a possibility as when I get tired of looking at it I toss it in the bottom of the hamper and it resurfaces after a while)
So long story short, isn't it always to late when someone says that? Have you seen a gray sock with a purple band at the top?

After spending some time with my mother this afternoon, I have created a new word.

Companicking.

Companicking: This is when a senior invents something to panic about because they want a bit of hysterics, or 'babying', or sympathy before the complaining begins. Start panicking first over some nonsense (real or imaginary) then let it progress into complaining, lashing out, and verbal abuse.

Companicking. Watch out for it.

Looks like it will be cold and wet on the 31st so likely very few will make it down my street for Halloween. This after a week of such glorious weather I gave in and went out and bought something to hand out. Oh well 🤷‍♀️

Blickbob - I'm thinking that your mom may have been right that her wound was a small skin tear rather than a bed sore. Bed sores are like icebergs in that the wound is 75% below the surface so once you notice an actual sore the damage generally isn't something that clears up in a week, my mom's stage one sore (red spot but no visible wound) took weeks to disappear. On the other hand I was devastated when I caused a skin tear when I repositioned her with a little less care than usual, their skin really is very fragile.
