Good morning,
Two years ago, I posted here, seeking advice on what to do with a mother verbally lashing out, and wanting to go ahead with my own life.
At the same time, she was diagnosed with a large, aggressive meningioma. Ultimately, she was admitted to long-term care, and ended up on the memory care unit.
In January 2025, she had a severe seizure, but over a few months recovered enough to have a pretty good quality of life. We visited as often as we could.
In April this year, she started to decline. Over the past month, it accelerated rapidly, and on 9.16 I got the call that she had become unresponsive.
On the evening of 9/17, she passed away. 😞
I spent time with her before, talking to her, touching her, just being there. She heard each of her children’s voices during that time. We were still waiting on my brother, and I believe she was “waiting” to hear from this one last child.
My voice was the last. I told her how much she was loved, thanked her for the gift of life and the wonderful job she did raising us, that I forgave her for everything-and finally: “It’s okay to go.”
I want to thank everyone here who gave me advice and encouragement.
In the midst of the sadness, though, I am getting married in two months.❤️

Thank you for the update.
Things like this are difficult for everyone.
While it is wonderful to have family around some process grief, death in their own way. I probably would never mention that he was not there in a way that would make him feel "bad". First...it is water under the bridge, you can't go back and change what was. Second.. he is dealing with the loss just as you and every other family member... and he may even feel more alone now.

I have a song for you for your wedding..."Holes in the Floor of Heaven" Give it a listen. I told a friend about this song and he and his daughter danced to it on her wedding. She lost her mom when she was a little girl

You are going from what seemed to be a sad and tumultuous roller coaster the last several years to now a much happier and joy filled roller coaster.
Enjoy the ride and God bless you.

I’m sorry for the long road with your mother of watching her decline and now her loss. There’s always a mixture of feelings when walking through this with a parent, hating watching what they go through and missing them after they’re gone. I wish you healing and peace. Best wishes on your upcoming marriage! What an exciting new time in life! Enjoy this next chapter everyday
