I moved into this home November 2023 the family up the street has been helping with my yard this whole time but the people who live behind me wants her family cutting my yard and I can not afford that this lady has never spoken to me but the company that come to my place she has come to them offering to cut the grass for a price. I can barely get around. In June I had a problem with the AC unit and called the landlord as he was looking at the unit. She walks up complaining about the people who cut my grass not telling him that she is throwing stuff over the fence into my yard. In July my twin sister took off for the weekend, when we returned the AC was not working again. I got home on the 24th and had the grass cut on the 27th because I didn't have the money, I explained that to everyone. The  landlord talked to me like I was nothing and told me how it was my fault that the wires on the AC unit were cut and how he is not replacing it. I will have to replace it. I need help what can I do?

Find Care & Housing
I have rented and the apt complex mowed the lawns and removed snow. The duplex I rented, the landlord gave the guy downstairs a discount on his rent to mow our lot. If you rent a house, though, you mow the lawn.

I would say you would be better off getting a low income apt. All you will be doing is paying the rent and utilities. No worries about mowing the lawn.

In many states you maintain the property on leased houses.

OP, I'd call around to landscapers. Tell them you are disabled and get some quotes. If you see a guy mowing across the street or in your area you will get better quotes from a guy already working in the area.

As reference I pay $35 a mow and blow for my yard. He is mowing twice a month now so $70 for the yard.

That is cheap. Its been 10 years and Mom paid $50. Our neighbor had a business and wanted to charge her $70. Each was forca week.

Being only 51 will get you no points for being elderly, but you may have a general tenant case. I’d contact them.

Why did you move into a home where lawn care is your responsibility if you're disabled and also cannot afford it?

Here in Colo folks who RENT certain properties are indeed responsible for lawn care as you apparently are also.

You've signed up to a forum of caregivers to elders here at Agingcare, so this is the wrong place to get help with such issues.

Good luck to you.

I'm seeing many of you on here are implying that the mowing of the lawn is the landlords responsibility, but I'm guess that perhaps that's only in the states in which you live, as I live in NC and we have many rental properties in the HOA neighborhood where I live and all of the renters are responsible to either mow their own lawns or hire someone to do it for them and pay for it themselves.
So that tells me that it all depends on where you live and also what it says in the rental agreement that was signed by OP.

If it's a single-family, private home keeping up the lawn and yard may be part of the lease agreement. Not if it's an apartment and there's other tenants in the building. Unless of course there's a special arangement in the lease. The AC unit being broken is not the tenant's responsibility to fix. If the neighbor vandalized it, that's a police matter.

Since you're disabled, you might want to look into whether there are apartments available for low-income seniors and disabled people in your area, so that you won't have to worry about things like this. But as others have said, it is your landlord's responsibility to take care of these things, so contact your local government authority.

If you live in a rent, it's not your responsibility to cut the grass or to pay someone to do it. I'm assuming since you claim you can't afford to pay someone to do it, that you aren't living in a one-family private home. There is probably other tenants living in the building. It's not their responsibility to cut the grass either. The landlord owns the property and it's his responsibility to maintain it. Or did you sign an agreement to be responsible for yard work with your lease? If so, then the grass is your responsibility. The damage done to the property by the neighbor is not because you don't own the property. Your landlord does.

If the neighbor is throwing trash and debris over to your place and cutting wires in the AC unit, your landlord can install security cameras. Once again, the home you live in is your landlord's property. You pay him rent and don't wreck the place. That's where your responsibility ends. He is responsible for the yard and anything that breaks down in the place.

You're telling your story in the wrong place. This is a forum for caregivers. You need to speak with your landlord and maybe even town's housing authority and the police.

The landlord needs to call the police.

Sounds like the LL is trying to blame the renter...

people in my area, if they are renting, yard work and maintenance is usually included in the rent agreement ..

in my state, starting January 2027, if you are over a certain age, it will be mandatory by law that the landlord will have to supply AC, to at least 1 room if the house.
Where in the world are the wires cut?
it's not your fault. I cannot imagine the wires for the AC are just strung all over the grass.. that sounds silly to me.
If the landlord doesn't want the grass, the landlord should remove it. If he wants to maintain his yard, he should do it. Check your laws in your area about landlords, leasing , and responsibility..
mow, if he gave you a rental discount because you promised to do the upkeep to your portion of the yard, you may need to talk with him about that., my friend has to renew her lease every year, with inside inspection. And she is going to tell her that come 2027, she will need to supply her with an AC unit if some sort.
how long have you lived there?

MAYDAY,

I've lived in rents. Never was I expected to mow the lawn, do snow removal, or any kind of maintenance other than keep my apartment clean and don't wreck the place. The OP claims they are disabled. They would not have a rent agreement that includes yardwork.
